LISA ZHENG
Sonoma County Youth Poet Laureate, 2024-25
Lisa Zheng is a sophomore at Maria Carrillo High School. She is a Poetry Out Loud class winner and a volunteer at the Charles Schulz museum in Santa Rosa. In Lisa's own words: Poetry is an empty Google Doc or a fresh leaf of paper where I can escape the rigid rules of school essays and pour my rawest experiences out. I sometimes even translate prose into rhythmic ballads by the piano. I am a “word nerd”: I like the elegance of specific words together and experimenting with unconventional syntax…My main purpose behind writing these poems, besides personal catharsis, is to give a voice to the psychological turmoils that many teens experience that are often kept in the dark due to shame of admittance, and give them a dose of hope and cause for change.”
SABINE WOLPERT
Sonoma County Youth Poet Ambassador 2024-25
Sabine Wolpert is a senior at Analy High School. She is active in the leadership of many clubs including Analy Activist Club, Analy Zero Waste Club, Analy Eco Club, and more. In her own words: "Writing is one of my favorites because it allows me to express myself and process the beautiful and vast world around me. Writing also allows me to explore new parts of myself and the things around me that I am curious about. I deeply value connection to the land and to the people around me. Growing up in community, I have truly learned the importance of this connection and how art can be a beautiful way to cultivate relationships. I hope to grow up to create a more positive and equitable world through whatever career I decide to pursue. Most of all, I want to chase joy and wonder."

Sonoma County California Poets in the Schools poog om erkenning te gee aan 'n student wat uitnemendheid in poësie behaal het. Vir hierdie doel sal ons die volgende Youth Poet Laureate van Sonoma County in September 2021 aanwys. Ons sal hierdie jong persoon ondersteun as 'n opkomende kunsleier vir die land - wat help om die profiel van poësie te verhoog en sy gehoor te ontwikkel.
Besonderhede:
Hierdie student moet tussen die ouderdomme van 13 en 19 wees.
Hulle moet 'n landinwoner wees wat verwag om tussen September 2021 en Augustus 2022 in die land te bly.
Hulle moes ook hul verbintenis tot literêre kunste en gemeenskapsbetrokkenheid getoon het deur deelname aan vrywilligers- en gemeenskapsdiens, klubs, naskoolse aktiwiteite en ekstra akademiese aktiwiteite.
California Poets in the Schools sal hierdie program as 'n streeksvennoot van Urban Word administreer.
Die Youth Poet Laureate sal 'n termyn van een jaar dien en sal na verwagting aan ten minste vier openbare funksies deelneem.
YPL sal 'n $500-toelae en 'n publikasiekontrak ontvang vir 'n hoofstukboek van hul werk, of 'n bloemlesing wat hul werk en dié van ander finaliste insluit.
Prosedure:
YPL-nominasies kan van enige organisasie of individu kom.
Aansoek moet afgelaai, gedruk, onderteken en ingedien word teen 15 September via e-pos na californiapoets@gmail.com
Aansoek kan ook gestuur word aan: California Poets in the Schools - Youth Poet Laureate Submission, Posbus 1328, Santa Rosa, CA 95402
Ons sal 'n aansoek pos aan enigiemand wat een versoek. Kontak asseblief meg@cpits.org om te versoek.
Met die aansoek moet drie van die student se gedigte ingedien word, altesaam nie meer as tien bladsye nie.
Vir finaliste sal 'n volwasse borg vereis word om 'n brief van ondersteuning te verskaf.
’n Komitee van gerespekteerde plaaslike digters sal aansoeke hersien en finaliste kies.
Finaliste sal gevra word om 'n beoordelingsessie by te woon sodat hul vermoë om hul gedigte effektief aan te bied (sowel as om goeie gedigte te skryf) geassesseer kan word.
Die wenner sal in September 2021 aangekondig word
Procedure:

YPL nominations may come from any organization or individual.

Application must be completed online.

We will email or mail a hard copy application to anyone who requests one. Please contact meg@cpits.org to request.

With the application, three of the student’s poems must be submitted, totaling no more than ten pages.

For finalists, an adult sponsor will be required to provide a letter of support.

A committee of respected local poets will review applications and choose finalists.

A parent/guardian must sign the application for applicants under the age of 18.

Finalists will be asked to attend a judging session so that their ability to present their poems effectively (as well as writing good poems) can be assessed.

The winner will be announced in April 2024.

Zoya Ahmed het gedien as die eerste Youth Poet Laureate van Sonoma County in 2020-21. Zoya het Maria Carrillo Hoërskool in Sonoma County bygewoon. Zoya omhels haar uiteenlopende agtergrond as 'n eerste generasie Suid-Asiatiese Amerikaner, met beide wortels in Pakistan en Indië. Hierdie kleurvolle erfenis is haar dryfkrag. Zoya word elke dag bemagtig om hard te werk om haar doelwitte te bereik, verneder deur die geleenthede wat sy kry, en geïnspireer om terug te gee aan die gemeenskap. Haar grootste motiveerders is haar ouers en haar gesin, wat haar elke dag aanmoedig. Hulle is haar muse; hulle simboliseer die betekenis van opoffering in haar lewe. Hulle stories, veral dié van die vroue in Zoya se familie, is wat haar skryfwerk 'n vonk van kreatiwiteit en perspektief gee.
