Preparing for Prop 28 ~ CalPoets' First Friday Community Meeting

All past and present California Poets in the Schools' Poet-Teachers, and interested members of the public, are welcome to attend the 1st Friday Community Meeting, during the lunch hour.  In February, we will be discussing what we know about Prop 28, as it is relevant to Poet-Teachers working in the literary arts education field.

Californians overwhelmingly passed Prop 28 - Arts and Music in School Funding, on the ballot in November 2022.  All California schools have received or will receive this funding for immediate use.

While this is significant good news for arts education in general, unfortunately the literary arts (with the exception of screenwriting) are not explicitly listed as allowable activities under Prop 28, as it is currently written.

What does this mean for Poet-Teachers with California Poets in the Schools?  We will investigate this question during this First Friday Community Meeting, led by Meg Hamill, Executive Director of CalPoets.

Please take a moment to learn about Prop 28, and then fill out a 2024 Arts Advocacy Field Survey being conducted by Californians for the Arts.

See you in February.
